We are pleased to announce that FMI and Doctoral Cente of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” (DocCent), organize the Summer School for PhD students, young researchers and scientists on “Big Data Summer School” (Big Data in natural, social and humanitarian sciences: scientific and technological challenges).
Аims:
The aim is in the time span of arround 60 lectures and seminars PHD students, young researches and specialists in the field to get information about the latest innovations in the field of Big Data. Participants will learn more about how to work and analyze big sets of data and they will get to know more about the naturally arising problems and their solutions.
The target audience is PHD students and young researchers in the fields of Natural, Social, Humanitarian and Computer sciences, as well as Mathematics. The summer school will also be helpful for companies and some organizations, working with big data sets.
Famous scientists from different countries and lectures from Sofia University will share their thoughts and experiences working in this field. Aside from theoretical lectures, there will also be practically orientated seminars and discussions.

Where and When: in Bankya from Sunday, July 8 to Sunday, July 15, 2018
Arriving date -> 8 July 2018
Departure date -> 15 July 2018
All participants will receive certificates for achievements, and PhD students will receive credits depending on their involvement with the course
6 credits -> attendance
10 credits -> attendance with presentation
Participants:
Each eligible person willing to participate in the summer school, should send their documents (see section about documents later on) till 30th of April to the summer school email address: BDSS2018@fmi.uni-sofia.bg.
Till 20 PhD students will get full scholarships covering all their expenses: transportation, accomodation and meals. They should pay only their participation fee: 30 BG Leva (till 30th of May 2018 г.), covering all expenses related to education.
The choice of funded PhD students will be done by the project expert council. All chosen canditates will be informed till 10th of May 2018. They shoyld pay participation fee of 30 BG Leva till 30th of May 2018.
All other eligible participants will be also informed and should pay by themselves their expenses – living, hotel, etc.(they may be financed by external organisation or from the organisation in which they work or study)
All young scientists and PhD studenrs are eligible, with priority given to people from all specialties working or studying at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”.
Participation fee:
Each eligible participant approved for the summer school should pay till 30th of May 2018 a participation fee of 300 BG Leva, covering education, materials and coffee breaks.
Required documents:
1) Motivational letter and indication for which of the scholarships you are applying
(you can apply for both of them, however you can not be given both at the same time);
2) Certificate that shows you are a PhD student or working contract (what is applicable);
3) CV; list of publications;
4) Title and abstract of the project to be presented (both in Bulgarian and English) - if applicable.
